In August 2004 Kate was sitting in the Pleasance Courtyard in Edinburgh when a troupe of musicians came singing and playing their way through the crowd, passing out shots and beckoning the audience to follow them into the theatre. It was NIE’s My Long Journey Home, the first show in a trilogy they went on to make. Kate fell in love with their energy, inventive playful style, and stories that made their audiences laugh and cry by turns.
She invited them to bring the show to BAC and went on to commission future work by them at BAC. A few years later, Fuel worked with NIE to help them with some strategic development of their touring contacts in the UK and internationally, and to develop their infrastructure. You can find out more about what they are up to now on www.nie-theatre.com.
