January 2015: Casting call out

We are looking for female singers to work with Melanie Wilson on a new contemporary music theatre production called Opera for the Unknown Woman from April – June 2016.

Opera for the Unknown Woman is a bold new project for Melanie Wilson and Fuel. Created by Melanie Wilson (UK) with co-composer Katarina Glowicka (PL), projection designer Will Duke (UK) and conductor Natalie Murray-Beale (AUS), it is an epic science-fiction dream of Earth in the 21st and 22nd centuries, seen through the eyes of its women and visitors from the far future.

The project is commissioned by Wales Millenium Centre for Festival of Voice and Yorkshire Festival in association with Warwick Arts Centre. Funded by Arts Council England & Wales. Supported by the Fidelio Trust and Hinrichsen Foundation. Development commissioned by Warwick Arts Centre and funded by Arts Council England & PRSF for Music Foundation. Developed in association with Opera North Projects.

What we are looking for

We are specifically looking for artists for roles from Africa, the Middle East, China, South East Asia, Russia and Eastern Europe, who can perform with one of the accents of these regions.

We are interested in singers from a range of musical backgrounds with the ability to experiment with sound and to work both as a soloist and within a chorus. Performer must be skilled collaborators and also be confident in delivering spoken text and to be able to move physically.
