Inspiring Protest in Nottingham

Fuel were delighted to present Protest at Nottingham’s Squire Performing Arts Centre, to an audience of 729 students from 15 schools in the city.

The performances at Squire Performing Arts Centre took place last week, at a midway point in the production’s remount, which began at Traverse Theatre in January, and closes at Northern Stage this month.

The production received rave reviews from teachers and students alike.

Reflecting on the impact of the production, Laura Fowler, Head of Nottingham Girls’ High School’s Infant and Junior School remarked, “So powerful and fitted so well with children’s mental health week, this week!”

Similarly, Mr Phillips, Head of Chilwell School, commented, “Protest encouraged our students to engage critically with the issues presented, and to consider different perspectives; fostering empathy and compassion in the process. It also opened up a dialogue on the effects and strategic use of sound, lighting, and set in the performance.”

This special school’s performance of a Protest is a development of Fuel’s ambition to inspire young audiences and theatre-goers. Previous work which toured to schools includes Inua Ellams’ The 14th Tale which toured to schools across the UK last autumn.
