Fuel is thrilled to announce a new commission by Laura Mvula and a new collaboration with Chineke! Orchestra: An Evening with an Immigrant, the acclaimed solo show written and performed by Inua Ellams, will be reimagined in a powerful new orchestral concert performance on Sunday 26 April at 7.30pm at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, as part of Multitudes Festival.
This world premiere performance marks the first time the celebrated work is presented with a live score, newly composed by Laura Mvula and performed by Chineke! Orchestra. Littered with poems, stories and anecdotes, Ellams’ autobiographical performance traces his journey from Nigeria to the UK, navigating faith, migration, belonging and creativity with humour, poignancy and lyricism.
Performed for the first time with Laura Mvula’s rich, expansive music, this new collaboration transports audiences through Ellams’ extraordinary life story – from escaping religious fundamentalism to performing at the National Theatre, and finding connection without a country to call home.
Produced by Fuel in collaboration with Southbank Centre, Chineke! Orchestra and Choose Love, this very special event celebrates ten years of the original show and speaks urgently to contemporary conversations around migration and identity.
Tickets are on sale for Southbank Centre members on the 28th of January, and on the 30th January for the general public.
Tickets will be available here.
