Project History

Fuel presents The Summer House

By Will Adamsdale, Neil Haigh, Matthew Steer & John Wright

Three not-so-alpha males are AWOL on a stag night in Iceland.

Then the Vikings arrive.

Mountains, myths, and middle-class angst, in a new play about friendship and modern masculinity. And the weather.

The Summer House was a first-time collaboration between Will Adamsdale (Jackson’s Way), Neil Haigh (Cartoon de Salvo), Matthew Steer (Britain’s Best Mates), and John Wright (co-founder of Told by an Idiot and Trestle).

Commissioned by Corn Exchange Newbury. Developed as part of Fuel at the Roundhouse and the Jerwood Residencies at Cove Park, which are supported by the Jerwood Charitable Foundation. Funded by Arts Council England. Production time in kind provided by artsdepot. Presented as part of Gate Guests.

#TheSummerHouse

"**** Warm, funny, spot-on comedy with dark undertones – very entertaining."

Whatsonstage

"**** ...ingenious comedy... deliciously leftfield fare and more than just a conventional satire such as Men Behaving Badly... The real treat is the ingenuity with which the tale is told."

Time Out

"A wonderful homage to male bonding' - Exeunt Magazine 'It's likely to be an offbeat evening, and totally disrespectful of the boundaries between comedy and theatre, high and low art."
