Project History

A Lyric Hammersmith, Bristol Old Vic, and West Yorkshire Playhouse Production.

Do you believe in undying love?

The Lyric’s trademark combination of thrilling storytelling and theatrical exuberance journeyed to India in David Farr’s retelling of one of the greatest love stories of all time.

Exiled from the serene palaces of their homeland and plunged into the deep forests of Southern India, the passionate love of Rama and Sita was put to the test – as demons, goddesses and an army of monkeys do battle for their hearts.

Joining forces with collaborators including Amit Lahav (Gecko), Blind Summit (Anthony Minghella’s Madame Butterfly, Low Life) and leading light of the Asian music scene, Shri (of Badmarsh & Shri), Farr created a highly physical and visually stunning new adaptation that takes you on a heady journey from the darkness of the jungle to the lights of Diwali.
