Peaceophobia: Speakers TV now live on Fuel Digital
Posted on: 6th June 2023
It’s difficult to believe Peaceophobia debuted almost two years ago.
The show began its life in Bradford, where a partnership struck between Common Wealth, Bradford Modified Car Club, and the activists at Bradford based collective Speakers Corner. .
Frustrated with the way Asian Muslim men in Bradford were being stereotyped and profiled and the rise in Islamophobia, the groups came together to host a rally in the city centre. At the heart of the rally was a car show, but this was no ordinary display of cars: people brought along political slogans and posters. It was a jubiliant celebration and a powerful protest wrapped into one – a show of resolve and resistance to Islamophobia. The result has been far-reaching, and the last two years a whirlwind. It debuted in Bradford before touring to sell out audiences in Manchester, London, Brighton, Norwich and Edinburgh. It won an Asian Media Award and received five star reviews. Peaceophobia has also been shared with audiences across the world through our streaming platform Fuel Digital.
This month, Peaceophobia makes a return to Scotland once again, this time to Tramway, Glasgow.
Glasgow is not only a brilliant place for arts and culture, but also has the largest Muslim community of any city in Scotland. Following on from the brilliant response Peaceophobia received last summer in Edinburgh, it feels fitting to share this work at Tramway, a vibrant arts venue with a track record of supporting new artists and programming new work that probes the most important questions about our times.
To mark this occasion, we’re excited that Speakers TV is now live on Fuel Digital.
Created by the young people at Speakers Corner, this four-part series explores some of the themes and ideas around the show. Topics covered include an exploration of the impact of systematic and institutionalised racism, and a deep dive into the car culture scene in Bradford. Hosted by activist Samayya Afzal and featuring interviews with those with lived experiences of Islamophobia, including some of the cast members, this series is a must see. Speakers TV isavailable on Fuel Digital, free to all audiences.
