Fuel presents Ether Frolics

An altered trip through the different levels of consciousness that emerged while under anaesthesia.

Ether Frolics was a powerful theatrical journey created in collaboration with Shunt artists Lizzie Clachan, Hannah Ringham and David Rosenberg. It combined Sound&Fury’s visceral storytelling with Shunt artists’ bold visual style.

The show lead the audience from a closed white cubicle on the ward into an altered state of anaesthetized consciousness where 3D animations caused optical tricks, dazzling stagecraft disorientated any sense of space and the performance theatre space slipped away to become a strange, surreal operating one.

Provocative, disturbing, and comic the immersive performance style embraced the history and contemporary practice of anesthetic medical science and, with its questions of consciousness, invaded the mind and stunned the senses.
