What secrets would you tell a complete stranger?

When All Is Said is a collection of 5 short plays, written by five Black trans people, in their own voices, delivered over the phone. Curated by Travis Alabanza and directed by Emily Aboud and Leian John-Baptiste, When All Is Said offers you the opportunity to sit back and listen, as these worlds and journeys are brought to life.

A long taxi ride becomes a winding long journey into the past and the histories that shape us… a phone call conversation opens up a powerful set of revelations about incarceration and the criminal justice system… a university campus becomes a breeding ground for anti-trans hostility… the child of enslaved parents asks what freedom can really look like… A Black trans man embraces his queer manhood by challenging his own toxic masculinity. Contained within these new stories by Travis Alabanza, Felix Mufti-Wright, Octavia Nyombi, Ebun Sodipo and Campbell X, are secrets – and you’re invited to listen.

When All Is Said is the latest work curated by award-winning theatre maker Travis Alabanza. The five plays, written by five black trans writers, have been written to be performed down the telephone, to audiences at home, at work, or wherever they may be.

This event will be taking place remotely, over the phone. In order to create a seamless experience, we ask that all bookers read this FAQ’s thoroughly.

Is the show in person?

No, this show will be delivered over the phone.

You will be required to submit your telephone number during the checkout process, which is the number we will call on the day you booked your ticket. On the day of the show, on the performance timeslot you have selected during the booking process, you will receive a phone call from the performer and you will then listen to the play over the phone.

We will ring the number you’ve provided twice on the following number:  020 7228 6688. If there is no answer, we will assume you do not wish to take part in the performance. We will not be issuing refunds for anyone who does not answer the call, or are able to reschedule your ticket

Please note that phone numbers will not be made public to the performers. We will delete the phone number as per GDPR regulations for the privacy of the audience member.

How do I purchase a bundle offer

To enable to bundle offer, you need to select one full price ticket and keep adding tickets until five ticket slots are selected. The offer will be applied at that point. You can see that when as you begin to select the tickets a pink box comes up explaining how many full priced tickets you need to add to be eligible for the bundle discount offer. You can find a video showing the process here

How will I be contacted?

You will be contacted by the phone number you’ve supplied during the process of booking your ticket. Please make sure you supply the correct number. If you wish to make any changes to your booking or would like to supply a different number, please contact [email protected]

Due to the show being remote, you are welcome to take the call from wherever location you wish to hear the performance. This can be your home, on a walk, or anywhere else you want. However, please note that we will ask you to put yourself on mute throughout the performance to remove any distrupting potential background noise.

We will send you a pre-show email two days before your phone call reminding you about your booking and outlining these instructions.

What happens if there's a technical issue?

If there’s a problem during the phone call, someone from our boxoffice team will be on hand. You can contact them on [email protected] to supply an alternative number.

Even though this is a remote event, we would like you treat it like a performance. We ask that you please ensure that on the date and time of your booking that you are in a room where the connection is strong and that there is minimal background noise. We want you to fully appreciate the experience, and distractions or interruptions will adversely effect this.

Can I take a break during the call?

These stories are very short (between ten and twenty minutes in duration). The performers are doing multiple performance calls that evening and our entire technical team are running to a tight schedule to make this happen. You might not be called on the dot at 18:00, as the ‘Stage Manager’ will be connecting multiple stories to multiple people, but it will be within a few minutes of your booked timeslot. We therefore ask that you are available for the full 30 minutes of your selected timeslot, as there will be no availability to pause on the performance or take a break during your call.

Can I book a specific play from a specific writer?

You are able to select the timeslot and date you would like to receive the performance. However, you are unable to select a specific piece from a specific writer. We therefore encourage you to purchase our ‘package deal’ of all five plays for just £25, giving you a saving of £15. When you purchase all five tickets you will be guaranteed to listen to all five plays. Don’t miss out!

Is there audience participation?

No, there is no audience participation during the performance. We recommend for you to mute yourself throughout the duration of the performance in case there is any background noise. If at any point the performer feels uncomfortable due to unsolicited comments from an audience member or other, they have the right to stop the show and hang up.
