Fuel is proud to present The 419, a new interdisciplinary exhibition by poet and playwright Inua Ellams and photographer and filmmaker Oluwamuyiwa “Logor” Logo.

Taking inspiration from street warnings seen in Lagos – “This house is not for sale. Beware of 419” – Ellams crafted 14 ‘Nigerian Sonnets’ that offer insight into how money moves through the lives of 14 Lagosians: from labourers to elected officials, musicians to market traders. Each poem is paired with a striking photographic portrait by Logor, known for his stark and soulful visual narratives.

Together, the works interrogate and subvert the “419” stereotype, often associated with Nigerian financial fraud, to reveal the human stories behind the headlines.
