We continue our journey to being more accessible

Many of the world’s population is missing out on the valuable resources of the internet, due to inaccessible websites. Vision impairments, hearing loss, and common learning disabilities mean that many people can’t reap the benefits of the internet.

At Fuel, one of our main goals is to ensure all content on our website is accessible. In order to do this, we have installed a cloud-based software called Recite Me on our website that offers an assistive toolbar at the top of the page should any of our users need a little assistance.

The Recite Me toolbar is comprehensive and easy to use and offers a boatload of solutions to support our users which allows them to customise our website content in a way that works best for them.

What does the toolbar do?

This accessibility toolbar will appear at the top of your page. No matter what your needs are with the content in front of you, the toolbar offers various ways to support you. These are just some of the features of the toolbar…

  • Reading text on a page aloud in a natural speaking voice

  • Dyslexia tools to change text and background colours

  • Translation tools that allow you to translate text into more than 100 languages

  • A digital ruler to help you keep track of where you are as you’re reading

  • A screen mask that allows you to cover up other sections of text so you can focus on the section you’re reading

  • A dictionary to search the definition of words you may not have seen before

  • A magnifying glass to enlarge content

  • A PDF document reader

 

You can save your preferences for when you return to our website in the future, and the toolbar works across a variety of devices.

How do I find the toolbar?

The toolbar doesn’t automatically appear on the screen as not all users may need it. If you would like to use the toolbar, you will see an icon titled ‘Accessibility’ (see icon below) in the bottom left-hand corner of your web page. Simply click on this icon and the toolbar will appear at the top of your page.
If you don’t want to use the toolbar and want to remove it from your screen, simply click the ‘X’ icon in the top right-hand corner of your page.
