Touching the Void

Based on the book by Joe Simpson

Adapted by David Greig

Directed by Tom Morris

Touching The Void is our latest premier involving the Wellcome Trust. Magda Osman is a Reader in Experimental psychology at QMUL.  She brings her research into ‘understanding the underlying mechanisms involved in learning, decision making, and problem solving in complex dynamic environments’ to the project and is helping David and Tom understand the psychological mechanisms that were in play during his ordeal.

Mike Tipton is Professor of Applied Physiology at University of Portsmouth in their department of Sport and Exercise Science. Mike specialises in the physiological and psychological responses to adverse environments and has been supporting David Greig in understanding how the climbers would have responded to the situation and therefore the true extent of Joe’s astonishing survival.

We’re looking forward to further investigating these collaborations through public discussions and panels that will take place alongside the tour.

Touching The Void is a Fuel, Bristol Old Vic, Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, and Royal and Derngate, Northampton co-production
