Call Out for The Children’s Manifesto For Change Workshop is open!

Are you aged between 9 and 11 years? Do you care about your community, country and world? Do you want to tell everyone about a change YOU would like to make? We want to hear from you!

Here’s your chance to create a manifesto packed full of ideas on how to make the world a better place, meet new friends and share the stage with professional actor/dancers whilst exploring your own journey through imagination and live narration.

The Children’s Manifesto for Change is a very special three-part project: a workshop, a party and a performance, designed to celebrate the voices of 9-11 year olds and support their activism for living together, better, in a fast-changing world.

The programme will result in exclusive participation in The Kids Are Alright, a dance / theatre show by duo Encounter bringing together two autonomous worlds, exploring what happens when generations collide with hope and despair fighting for centre stage.

The Kids Are Alright is a performance for adults which is protected for participating children who will experience their own immersive storytelling show in sound cancelling headphones.

Activism 1 – Workshop

“Everything that is real was imagined first” – The Velveteen Rabbit

A fun, accessible opportunity for 9-11 year olds to explore how they think and feel about the state of our modern world.

If your child likes to talk, has an end of the world imagination and cares about the future – this is the workshop for them! Using exciting modes of digital activism, we will explore themes of changing communities, global crisis and children’s rights. Children will identify the issues in society as THEY see them and together imagine solutions for change.

During the workshop, the children will devise their manifesto via audio and film technologies which will then be shared before the performance of The Kids Are Alright. The manifesto will grow as we travel to different communities and your child’s voice will eventually be part of a much larger conversation across the UK.

After the workshop, children will be asked to write a letter to someone in a position of power to request a change they want to see. We will provide them with the materials to fulfil this and ask that they complete the task at home and bring their letters to our next meeting with them.

Activism 2 – Party

Come along to the next stage of our adventure – a Silent Disco!

Put on headphones and dance the afternoon away to your favourite tunes. Listen to your completed manifesto, party with your workshop friends, share and post your letters and listen to a special message about the upcoming performance, The Kids Are Alright.

Activism 3 – Take part in a professional performance!

Wearing noise cancelling headphones designed especially for you, take part in an immersive audio adventure as part of a performance of The Kids Are Alright.

Share the stage with professional actor/dancers and go on a journey in your imagination following, through live narration, the real and fantastical adventure of a brilliant, smart and very special 10 year old boy who is trying to find a new home in the UK.
