Composer Femi Temowo has won the award for Best Creative West End Debut Award at The Stage Debut Awards 2020.

Femi was nominated for the award in early August for his work in Three Sisters at the National Theatre which ran from October 2019 to March 2020 and also Death of a Salesman at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Due to COVID-19, the annual awards ceremony took place this year via The Stage’s Facebook page on Sunday 27 September, with pre-recorded sections from this year’s presenter, Miriam-Teak Lee.

Upon receiving his award, Femi had this to say, ‘Wow. I am so chuffed right now and surprised, to be honest with you. It means so much to have been nominated for this award let alone to win in such a stellar cast of creatives. I would love to thank my family and my friends for putting up with the countless hours of going to work instead of hanging out and socialising. Also, the directors who gave me such great space to work and the opportunity to work. Marianne Elliott, Miranda Cromwell for Death of a Salesman, and also Nadia Fall for Three Sisters. You are all champions, I love you so much. Also, my co-nominees, Nadia, Fabian, David, Benj, Justin, and Steven, it’s great to have been nominated along all of you fabulously talented people. I can’t wait for all of us to get back to work and out of these quite frankly strange times that we’re in. I hope it’s all over very soon and we can all get back to hopefully motivating and changing people’s lives. Thank you so much for this. It’s basically the cherry on top of what was already a fabulous year. Thank you.

This award was sponsored by the Noël Coward Foundation. The Stage Debut Awards, in association with Access Entertainment, are the only awards to recognise breakthrough theatre talent. They celebrate emerging actors and creatives, from all backgrounds.

Three Sisters, a Fuel and National Theatre co-production written by Inua Ellams, opened in December 2019 at the National Theatre to rave reviews.
